Mid-term exams at Allentown Central Catholic High School will be held Jan. 22-25. Students will take two exams a day and will be dismissed 11:30 a.m.

Catholic Schools Week will be held Jan. 27 to Feb. 2. Central will celebrate the week with various themed days, such as teacher appreciation day and college shirt day. The week will end with a pep rally. Viking Mentors, ACCHS’ group of students who assist new students and prospective families, will visit many of Central’s partner schools to help with their Catholic Schools Week activities.

Parent course selection night for the 2019-2020 school year will be held 6 p.m. Feb. 6 in Masson Auditorium. This event will provide an overview of courses available to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors. Counselors and teachers representing all the academic departments will also be available to answer additional questions.

Important financial dates for ACCHS families for the 2019-2020 school year have recently been announced. Check the school website for information regarding individual assistance in FACTS Tuition Management account setup, FACTS account deadline, financial aid and payment plan schedules.

The 2019 Wall of Fame Ceremony will be held 3-5 p.m. Jan. 26 in Rockne Hall. This year’s inductees include Laurie Corcoran, Kathleen Corcoran (2006), Andy Stephens (1992), Ray Straccia (2006) and the 2007 and 2008 Volleyball State Champion Teams. All former Wall of Fame inductees present at the event will also be honored.

Catholic Youth Organization nights at Rockne Hall are being held to celebrate all partner school CYO basketball players and cheerleaders. The first night was held Jan. 22 at the Vikettes vs. Northampton game and the second night will be held 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Vikings vs. Whitehall game. Free admission will be offered to all CYO basketball players and cheerleaders.

The ACCHS $3,000 tuition credit raffle has one drawing remaining Feb. 24. Any family who filled out their student’s 2019-2020 ACCHS application and submitted the discounted application fee will be entered in the drawing for $3,000 of tuition credit. The first drawing took place Dec. 21, 2018 and the second was held Jan. 21. The Allentown Central Catholic high School wrestling team traveled to Ocean City, Md., over Christmas break to compete in the Battle at the Beach Tournament, where the Vikings fought against 16 teams from four states. Of the seven Viking competitors, four placed in the top four of their divisions. The following wrestlers received awards: Attikos Clifford, first place with three pins; Christopher Clifford, fourth place with two pins; Kevin Falcon, third place with two pins and David Kreidler, third place with two pins.

The Vikette basketball team has continued to find success this season. At their game against Pleasant Valley Jan. 8, where the Vikettes won 48-27, senior guard Jess Davis scored 17 points, including five three-point shots. Senior guard Emily Kidd sunk eight points and collected a team-high eight rebounds.

The Viking football team continues to receive accolades. Seniors Logan Bachman and Rustin Seyle received a team honorable mention for the 2018 Class 4A All-EasternPAFootball.com team.

The Science Olympiad team participated in their first competition of the year at the Conestoga High School Battle at Valley Forge Invitational Jan. 12. The team participated in many events, including experimental design, protein modeling and anatomy and physiology. Seniors Michael Fleck and Ryan Schanta placed fifth in the Sounds of Music event.

The ACCHS Key Club held a Spirit Dress Down Day Jan. 14 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of the Lehigh Valley. The club raised more than $1,100 for the organization, which is dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

ACCHS recently received two nine-seat 2018 Chevy vans as a gift from Joe Fitzpatrick, Class of 1973, Greg Kelly, Class of 1979, The Kelly Auto Group and The Stabler Foundation. The new vehicles will be used for various extracurricular activities, athletic events and community service opportunities. The vans will also provide transportation for students in Carbon, Bucks and Berks counties and be used for transportation to and from the school’s Lehigh Career and Technical Institute programs.

Five buses of Central Catholic students traveled to the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Jan. 18. The school preceded the trip with a “Holy Hour for Life” Jan. 17 in the school chapel, where attendees prayed for the protection of the unborn along with Eucharistic adoration and reflective music. On Jan. 18, those on the trip traveled to Washington, where they participated in the March for Life, an annual demonstration in support of the pro-life cause. Students finished the day in Union Station for dinner and shopping before returning to Allentown.
