STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?
A. My family consists of my parents, Diane and Peter, my sister Emma and my two dogs, Barkley and Pugsley.
Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?
A. I enjoy seeing the other seniors, whom I’ve known since kindergarten, start to find their own path in life. With graduation approaching, it’s interesting to look back 10 years and see the changes that my peers and I have gone through to get to where we are today.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject this year is AP Calculus. Math has always been my favorite subject because it’s very logical and I love being able to solve a wide range of problems using only my mathematical skills.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I’m a two time varsity letter recipient for cheerleading, I have been awarded the Most Valuable Player award and I have made Principal’s and Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls since my freshman year. I’m a member of National and Spanish National Honor societies, as well as the National Society for High School Scholars. I’ve earned the Excellence in Spanish 4 Honors award and won an award in the National Spanish Exam.
Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?
A. A majority of my time after school is occupied with extracurricular activities. My favorites include being a member of the cheerleading team, Hornet Ambassadors, Leo Club, the EHS Peer Tutoring program and the Students Against Destructive Decisions club.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. After high school I plan to attend college to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge has been learning how to push myself to become a better student and overall a more well rounded person. I struggled freshman year with finding ways to help myself improve, so I decided to take higher level classes, join the cheerleading team and find clubs that interested me. Learning to step outside of my comfort zone taught me that the only way to improve is to overcome challenges.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for my hard work and dedication, but most importantly I want to be remembered for my kindness to my peers.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my parents for how supportive they are of me – which I believe has allowed me to take on all of the new challenges in my life. I also admire my grandmother for encouraging me to follow my heart and chase new adventures.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Be kind. Small acts of kindness like smiling to a peer, sitting with someone who’s alone in the cafeteria or helping a friend through a hard time may seem small to you at the time but it could be the positivity that person needs in their life.
