Principals named for two elementary schools

Karen Dopera has been named the inaugural principal of Veterans Memorial Elementary School, now under construction in Upper Macungie Township.

Dopera will take on her new job July 1 in preparation for the opening of the school in September 2020.

Veterans Memorial will serve the district’s southern tier community along with Jaindl and Fogelsville elementary schools, which are now serving that area but are stressed for space due to increased population growth from new housing developments.

Dopera has been principal of Schnecksville Elementary School for the past six years.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Kutztown University, as well as a supervisor of curriculum and instruction and principal’s certificate from Lehigh University.

Dopera was an elementary grade teacher in Allentown School District for five years, then moved on to various administrative positions there.

Parkland Superintendent Richard Sniscak commented on Dopera’s new role in the district.

“Karen is a true professional and will do whatever it takes for the children and community she serves,” Sniscak said. “She is very visible in her building, interactive, and involved with all facets of building leadership.

“Mrs. Dopera is well-organized, a true team player, and an extremely effective instructional leader in her role as principal. We wish her the best in her transition to our newest school.”

Damian Goodman, elementary dean of students for four years, will take over as Schnecksville School principal, also effective July 1.

Goodman received his Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Clemson University, a Master of Education degree from Kutztown University, and a principal’s certificate from Penn State.

He taught for 10 years at Jaindl and Cetronia elementary schools and filled in for Dopera during her maternity leave.

Sniscak commented on Goodman’s appointment.

“Mr. Goodman has been an effective leader, serving the district’s southern elementary schools in a supportive role.

“His positive attitude and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills have allowed him to be successful in his administrative role as dean of students.

“He is a tremendous asset to the district, and we look forward to his continued leadership as the new principal of Schnecksville Elementary School.”
