MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL

Macungie Borough Council President Chris Becker made note of Mack Trucks utilizing the Tyler Pipe parking lot at the Jan. 21 meeting.

There is a problem with trucks leaving the parking lot and running over the public sign in the bump out. Becker wants to bill Mack Trucks for the damages. There is also potential damage to the landscaping in the bump out.

Issues are being discussed between the borough and the Macungie Farmers Market. Costs for starting up are of concern along with the general procedure of the separation.

State Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, sent the borough a certificate of congratulations for the Community of Distinction award.

Mayor Ron Conrad suggested Sgt. Travis Kocher be considered for police chief. This will be investigated further.

The police testing consortium was discussed. Other municipalities are ready to move forward on the idea. Macungie wants to continue looking into this.

Issues about the proposed rental agreement were discussed. The borough is looking for a rental inspector that can simply inspect properties with a simple checklist. This is not a common service so looking for a qualified person will be difficult. According to the ordinance, the person must have insurance. This person will be going into resident’s homes which is the reason for insurance.

The fee schedule was approved by council. A fee was added for sewer lateral video inspection when required.

All fire department and ambulance corps volunteers will be considered for tax credits. How they participate is key for the credits. Consideration for participation in events, in fundraising, meetings and other events are eligible for credit.

The Lehigh County Humane Society contract for 2019 was approved. This contract is for handling sick, lost or hurt animals.

An executive session was held about a real estate issue.
