LEHIGH COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced Jan. 4 that a Coopersburg man has been charged in a bank robbery committed Dec. 19, 2018.

Richard Simmers, 54, of the 100 block of East Station Avenue, has been charged with one count of robbery, a felony of the first degree, according to a media release from the district attorney’s office.

Simmers was taken into custody at his residence without incident and was arraigned through central booking.

At 9:13 a.m. Dec. 19, 2018, officers from the Coopersburg Police Department were called to the Lafayette Ambassador Bank, 317 E. Landis Street, Coopersburg, regarding a robbery which had just occurred.

An investigation was begun, and as a result of the investigation, it is alleged Simmers committed the robbery of the bank.

District Attorney Martin commends Coopersburg Chief of Police Anthony Struss, Officer Timothy Hoats and the Coopersburg Police Department for their work on this investigation.

As in every criminal case, the fact an arrest has occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation; and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
