Both the Whitehall’s boys and girls swim teams registered wins on Tuesday against visiting Salisbury, strengthening their conference standings as they head into the final quarter of their season.

The win raised the girls mark to 7-3 on the season, while the boys currently sit at 4-6 after the victory.

The girls defeated the Falcons 95- 71, with Martha Giletto claiming two first-place finishes, her initial victory coming in the 50-yard freestyle (26.96), and the second in the 500 freestyle (5:49.01).

Also taking first place were Kallie Lyle in the 100 butterfly (1:09.08), Patricia Bartosh in the 100 backstroke (1:10.06) and Lindsay Solderitch in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.63).

The boys swept every event, defeating the Falcons 105-31. They had Nikola Martinovic, Connor Barnes, Daniel Jablonski, Michael Nguyen and Alberto Cervani, all touching the wall first in their respective races.

Head coach Pete Rile, who recently earned his 300th victory guiding the girls program, said that they’ve been in a lot of close meets recently, and that’s required a lot of energy and emotional support among everyone on the team. He felt that their meet against Salisbury wasn’t going to be quite as tense, but he knew the Falcons would still give them a tough battle, especially with the girls.

“We still felt with out depth and strength, we would be able to score,” said Rile.

The boys was a bigger unknown. He knew that the Salisbury boys were facing a numbers problem just like they were, and that was a big obstacle to overcome. He just wasn’t sure of the times they had posted in their races this season.

Overall, he felt it was just a good meet that allowed them to just relax and swim since they have a bunch of tough meets ahead of them.

“It was good,” said Rile.

With seven meets remaining on their schedule, the Zephyrs have qualified five swimmers for districts.

For the boys, Jablonski has qualified in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle. 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 medley. Martinovic has qualified in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

So far the girls will be represented by Giletto in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 medley. Lyle qualified in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while Madelyn Kutney will be swimming the 200 freestyle at districts.

Rile said that they also have a handful of swimmers who have “consideration times,” but the focus is still having them qualify. He said that approximately three or four swimmers are on the verge of entering the D-11 meet, and now’s the time that they’ll need to make their finals pushes to score a spot.

“So we’re expecting to see some good things over the next two or three weeks,” said Rile.
