PBS39

PBS39 recently announced the winners of its Artist of the Month Contest for 2019.

This annual contest, gives young artists in kindergarten through 12th grade the chance to be featured by PBS39 on air, on Facebook and on the station’s website.

This year’s student submissions included music, fine art, writing, digital media and performing arts.

The 2019 PBS39 Artists of the Month include 13 students from area schools (there was a tie in the middle school category this year): Troy Albanese, of 21st Century School for drawing, Maycie Dreisbach, of Whitehall-Coplay Middle School, for painting, Juliana Gipson, of Innovative School of Art, for mixed media art, Amelia Kohler, of Orefield Middle School, for drawing, Savannah Kopensky, of Evergreen Elementary, for drawing, Alivia Kotkiewicz, of Southern Lehigh Intermediate, for fabric creations, Signe Rusko, of Wilson Intermediate, for three dimensional art, Sadie Sisk, of Liberty Bell Elementary, for drawing, Keira Strumfels, of Glenside Elementary for drawing, Ruth Stuart, of William Allen High School, for ceramics, Rhys Williams, of Emmaus High School for original song and lyrics, Ryan Xu, of Princeton High School, for music and Ava Zellner, of Liberty Bell Elementary for drawing.

“I am so impressed by the skills of these students,” Catherine Reifsnyder, manager of education at PBS39, said. “We are thankful for the generous support from our partners who make this program a success year after year.”

The artists and their various talents are celebrated at the end of the year each December with an art show and party.

Support from Crayola, Univest and PPL makes this program possible. The Baum School of Art donates certificates for free classes to PBS39 Artists of the Month.
