Cedar Crest College
Cedar Crest College will host its 10 annual Scholarship Competition Day for high school students from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 2. The top prize is a four-year, full tuition scholarship. There will be several financial assistance awards.
The qualifying round includes a three-hour exam, consisting of multiple choice and true-false questions covering the arts, mathematics, science, and the humanities; and a writing component test. The top five will continue to the interview portion. The winner will be announced the following week.

Concrete course offered
Concrete Casting, a new course offered by Northampton Community College, will be held from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m on Jan. 17 and 24 at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St.

Social Media event
An “Evolving Your Business with Social Media” session, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 24 at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St.
The class will explore automated text messaging, billboard advertising, and free marketing tools in addition to streamlining processes, upholding your business’s reputation and developing a time line for success.

Summer Theatre productions
William Mutimer, artistic producing director for Northampton Community College’s Summer Theatre program, has announced local performer audition information for its third season line-up, which begins June 5.
Auditions are from 1 to 5 p.m. on March 24 and 30; and a special audition for the juvenile role of “Jason” for Falsettos, from 2 to 4 p.m. March 9, all at 3835 Green Pond Road.

Exhibit opens January 23
“Fiber Deconstructed: Alison Bessessdotter, Jill Odegaard, Barbara Schulman”, a free exhibit of diverse approaches to textile and fiber arts, will be open Jan. 21 to March 24 in the Ronald K. De Long Gallery, Penn State Lehigh Valley.
There will be a free, open to the public artist reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the gallery. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Workshop on Running for Local Office Offered
The Penn State Extension workshop, “Toss your Hat in the Ring”, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 (snow date: Feb. 20), at the Northampton County Human Services Building, 2801 Emrick Blvd. 18020
Focusing on understanding the roles, responsibilities and personal rewards that come with public service, topics include an overview of Pennsylvania local government and the responsibilities of a township supervisor, a borough council member, or a school board director and instructions on how to run, presented by a Penn State Extension educator.
There will be a panel of local officials who will talk about why they decided to run for office and some of their experiences since they were elected.
