Allentown Central Catholic students finished 2018 with a Christmas performance Dec. 21, 2018. The show featured the concert band, chorus and dance team. The school concluded the performance with a Christmas sing-along.
The Viking basketball team was named Lehigh Valley Health Network 2018 Christmas Tournament Champions Dec. 28, 2018. The tournament was held in Rockne Hall.
The team defeated Freire Charter School 71-51 and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 56-55 to be crowned the winner of the tournament.
Senior Chad Kratzer had an exceptional game, scoring 30 points.
The Vikette basketball team also enjoyed good performances at their last few games. The team defeated Emmaus 50-25 Dec. 21, 2018; Crestwood 41-5 Dec. 22, 2018 and Freedom 49-44 Jan. 3.
Students at Allentown Central Catholic High School have also enjoyed individual successes. Neil Maydick recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout and received his Eagle Medal in a Court of Honor ceremony at St. Joseph the Worker.
The Class of 2022 held a Freshman Movie Night Jan. 4. Students from the class gathered in Masson Auditorium to watch “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” All who were there enjoyed the movie, food and spending time with their friends.
The second ACCHS $3,000 tuition credit raffle drawing will be held Jan. 21. Any family who filled out their student’s 2019-2020 ACCHS application and submitted the $50 discounted application fee will be entered in three drawings for $3,000 of tuition credit. The first drawing took place Dec. 21, 2018 and the third and final drawing will happen Feb. 24. The ACCHS SAT prep course begins soon. Classes will be held on Saturdays this winter; January dates are Jan. 12, 19 and 26 and February dates are Feb. 9 and 16. Sessions will take place 9 a.m. to noon in Barry Hall. There is a cost for the math and verbal classes. Students may also take one section for a discounted price. The 2019 March for Life Retreat will take place Jan. 18 in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Allentown Central Catholic High School will take hundreds of students on the trip, which will begin with an Allentown Diocese Mass at the Baltimore Basilica, the first Roman Catholic cathedral in the nation. Students will then travel to Washington to participate in the March for Life, a walk along Constitution Avenue in support of the culture of life. The trip will end with dinner at Union Station.
ACCHS midterm exams are approaching. Exams will happen Jan. 22-25. Students will take two exams per day and will be dismissed 11:30 a.m. every day.
