The Rev. Hal Hopkins recently welcomed visitors to Lighthouse Baptist Church, Breinigsville, for a gospel concert by The Jacob Brothers.

“We are glad you are here,” Hopkins said at the Dec. 8, 2018, event. “We will be led in worship by the Jacobs Brothers.

“Send our warmest wishes and welcome them. I pray this will be a joyful evening for you.

The music began with a clap-along song and the words “This love is way way, yes, two ways, down inside of me.”

“Gospel music means good news,” Mike Jacobs said.

He had only returned to singing after a monthslong break following a serious fall on ice.

“Would you like to hear some Christmas songs,” he asked the audience.

“Yes” came the enthusiastic reply from the listeners.

“Open up your heart and you will see Christmas is the birthday of the king,” Mike Lawver said. “Sing along with us on the chorus to ‘Jingle Bells.’”

Following the song, Lawver addressed the audience.

“God gave us gifts. Every gift must have a giver,” Lawver said. “God’s precious gift we cannot buy or loan.”

Mike Jacobs said one of his gifts is friends and two of them were in the audience.

They had gone to the Holy Land with them. One was his wife, Sherry, and he asked her to come sing a song.

Together, they sang “O Holy Night.”

Lawver then noted Dec. 7 is honored as Pearl Harbor Day.

“Will veterans please stand up. Thank you for your service,” he told them.

The group then sang “America the Beautiful,” “I’m Proud to be an American,” “God Bless the USA,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and finished the set with “God Bless America.”

Bob Jacobs provided some background on the history of The Jacobs Brothers.

The gospel group began with a television show in 1973. They eventually started a campground for underprivileged children and now have 72 campsites.

They returned to music with “Go Tell it on the Mountain” and “What Child is This.”

“How Great Thou Art” was the closing number and then it was time for cupcakes, beverages and fellowship.
