Howard V. Sweeney

Howard V. Sweeney, 94, of Fullerton, died Jan. 5, 2019, at home. He was the husband of Maria G. (Biondi) Sweeney for 69 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late William and Helen (McClennan) Sweeney.

He was in the U.S. Army and earned the rank of sergeant. He was a quartermaster for two tours of duty during World War II in the European and Pacific (Korean) theaters.

He retired from Bethlehem Steel after many years of service.

He was a member of and an usher for 50 years at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Golden Agers.

He was, for more than 20 years, active in Scouting. When a camp master in 1978, he received the St. George Emblem from Bishop McShea for spiritual development and outstanding service to Catholic youth.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Giulio of Whitehall and Roberto “Bert” and his wife Danyelle of New Tripoli; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Lauren.

He was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Davis and Thelma Kuhns; and brothers, Thomas and Edward.
