Nineteen area cheerleading squads will compete in the 2019 District XI Competitive Spirit Championships beginning at 9 a.m. on Jan. 5 at Easton Area Middle School.
Bethlehem Catholic, which won the East Penn Conference Cheerleading Championships, will compete in the Small Division. Performing positions were assigned by random draw, and as with the EPC competition, the Hawks will perform last in their division at approximately 10:20 a.m.
Freedom will also compete in the Small Division, right before Becahi at approximately 10:15 a.m.
Pen Argyl, Whitehall, Northampton, Wilson, Emmaus, Pocono Mountain East, Southern Lehigh, Lehighton, and Stroudsburg are the other squads in the Small Division.
Wilson won the Colonial League Cheerleading Championships in November.
Liberty, Easton, and Pleasant Valley will compete in the Medium Division, and in the large Division, Nazareth is competing unopposed.
East Stroudsburg North, East Stroudsburg South, Pocono Mountain West, and Allentown Central Catholic will compete in the Coed Division.
Squads will be judged on presentation, motions, skills, and execution during the cheer portion of the routine, and partner stunts, pyramids, and tumbling during the music portion of the routine.
Doors will open at 8 a.m. and ticket prices are $9 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
Winners will compete at the PIAA State Championship Cheerleading Competition on Jan. 11 and Jan. 12 at the Hershey Giant Arena.
