Sarah Bobeck isn’t sure which individual events she plans to race at districts and states once the time comes. But she does know it will be a couple of freestyle events.

Fortunately for Bobeck, she still has some time to talk with head coach Patrick O’Connor and come up with the best idea. For now, she’s progressing well throughout the regular season.

Bobeck took first place in each of her two individual events last Thursday against Central Catholic, while helping two relay teams place first as well. She won both the 100-yard freestyle (55:31 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (2:03.39).

“I felt really good in the water in the meet against Central,” Bobeck said. “For having such a small team, I was really impressed with the results on both the boys and girls sides. There were multiple season-best times that got me excited for the rest of the season.”

Bobeck also helped the Lady Falcons’ 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams come in first; however, Salisbury came up short against Central Catholic in team points, 132-23.

The Falcon boys team also came up short. Baxter Reihman was the lone Falcon boy to win an event-the 100-yard freestyle in 55.66 seconds-while Central Catholic won, 133-23.

Bobeck’s fall season was a bit different than prior years. She played soccer for Salisbury in the fall, putting a change in her offseason swimming routine.

Despite not being in swimming shape as much this season as she would have liked, Bobeck is working toward her postseason goal of returning to states.

“Although I did some training in the fall season I also played high school soccer, so I’m not as conditioned as I was last year at this time,” Bobeck said. “But I feel I am on track to be as prepared as possible for the district meet. The senior year is a bit different because I’ve missed some training due to recruiting trips. I’m simply trying to focus on enjoying my senior year and my teammates.”

Madison Jewell won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.96, while Julia Graver took first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:32.85.

Bobeck seems to be on track to return to Bucknell for the state meet in a few months, but she also thinks a number of other Lady Falcons have the ability to as well. The next few weeks will be key in seeing if that becomes a reality.

“Every year it seems the competition gets stronger and stronger, and the times get faster just to make it to states,” Bobeck said. “If I make it to states, my personal goal is to finish in the top 10 of my event, qualify for finals or record a personal best time or school record.

“We not only have a very talented girls team this season, but they are also very hard-working. We have a real strong opportunity to take one and maybe two relay teams to states, but that means we need to come in first place at districts. It’s going to be a very exciting district meet with this group of girls.”
