LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Moment of silence for late firefighter

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence was requested at the Heidelberg supervisors’ December 2018, meeting in memory of Richard Witt, a longtime member of the Goodwill Fire Company, Germansville, and liaison with the township, who died on Dec. 6, 2018.

“It’s a pleasure, was a pleasure working with him,” Supervisor David Fink said.

In other matters, NOVA Ambulance Corps responded to 23 calls in November 2018 with one handled by another responder.

This gave the corps 96 percent coverage. There were 269 calls for the year with 11 handled by other responders. This is also a 96 percent coverage. Average response time was 9.21 minutes.

Roadmaster Kevin Huber said they are obtaining bids for work on Buckery Road. He will try to go around dirt roads again to facilitate drainage.

Lehigh County Commissioner Marc Grammes contacted him about the extra $5 registration fee which would go to the county.

He emailed PennDOT to see why the cost for the state to do the Green Light Go project would be so much, $23,000, when the township thought it could do it itself for $10,000.

Zoning Officer Dawn Didra reported she sent letters to residents of Heidelberg Heights saying cars with no stickers will be towed. There have been no complaints since the letters went out so she thinks the matter is resolved. Some residents would like her to patrol the Heights.

The demolished building on Saegersville Road is being cleared.

Engineer Chris Noll said the township will be asking for a variance about impervious coverage for the new turf ball field.

He said a loop on the walking trail could be cut off and lower the price while helping drainage.

The Environmental Advisory Council has looked at the athletic fields at the school and determined the new fields will not require any changes.

Greg Snyder received conditional approval for two lots at Buckery and Bake Oven roads.

Construction will be in line with existing homes. An erosion plan and maintenance agreement are required as well as the recreation contribution and a legal description for the road.

The board’s reorganization meeting will be 7 p.m. Jan. 7, followed by the regular 7:30 p.m. meeting.

A paper was distributed concerning the proposed veterans’ memorial at Ontelaunee Park, Lynn Township.

In part, the request stated: “Our hope is that you will help us identify local veterans from your archives, memorials and cemeteries as well as asking help from people about veterans in their families.

“At this time our plans for fundraising, design and construction are still being developed.”
