LOWER MACUNGIE COLUMN

Lower Macungie Library will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1, 2019. The library will close 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Jan. 2, 2019 to discuss “The Greater Journey” by David McCullough. The book for February is “The Ninth Hour” by Alice McDermott.

There will be a Kids’ Craft Clean-Up 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 9, 2019 for children ages two and up with adult supervision. Miss Lisa and Miss Johanna have found random craft supplies that will be available in the temporary program room for a morning of crafty fun.

In preparation for the final phase of construction, the library will be closed Jan. 21, 2019 and will re-open Feb. 18, 2019. There will be no programming or access to the collection during this time. Checkout limits will be changed starting Jan. 2, 2019 and checked out items cannot be returned during the closure.

The Friends of the Library will hold their next meeting 10 a.m. Jan. 19, 2019 at the library. New officer elections will be held; all current members are encouraged to attend.

The Friends wish to thank all who donated to and volunteered for the fall book sale. Over $4,700 was raised to put toward the new children’s wing.

Due to library construction, donations for the spring book sale will not be accepted until March 4, 2019. Please hold your donations until then.

Concordia Lutheran Church, 2623 Brookside Road, will host an Advent supper 6 p.m. and an Advent service 7 p.m. Dec. 19. For more information, call the church at 610-965-3265.

Concordia Lutheran Church will host a tree lighting and carol sing Dec. 20. Refreshments will be served 6 p.m. and the tree lighting will be 6:45 p.m., followed by a carol sing. Everyone is invited.

Christmas trees will be collected the weeks of Jan. 7, 2019 and Jan. 14, 2019 on regular trash collection days. Remove all decorations and do not bind with rope or string or place in a plastic bag. Trees can also be dropped off at the yard waste recycling center, 5536 Indian Creek Road.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will have a registration day open house to enroll students for the 2019-2020 school year 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 21, 2019. The staff will be giving tours and accepting registrations. For more information, call 610-965-3265.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold its annual spaghetti dinner and auction 4-8 p.m. Jan. 26, 2019. Tickets can be purchased by calling the church office at 610-965-3265.

The Lower Macungie Garden Club will meet 1 p.m. Jan. 9, 2019 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center.

The Ancient Oaks Womens Organization will hold its next meeting Feb. 6, 2019.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Jan. 15, 2019 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

The community center offers a number of activities. Classes include organization, fiction writing, card making classes, community meal prep, belly dance, Latin partner dance, ballroom dance, Tai Chi, Zumba and Pilates. Children’s activities include safe sitter class, video game animation, toddlers and tutus, Kindermusik, cooking, robotics and soccer. Family open gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site winter hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The center is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.
