Frank S. Kovacs

Frank S. Kovacs, 77, of Northampton, died Nov. 29, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. He was the husband of the late Judith A. (Gaugler) Kovacs for 38 years.

Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary (Jacob) Kovacs.

He was a 1959 Central Catholic graduate and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Kutztown State College and a master’s degree in education from Lehigh University.

He taught geography and earth science at Northampton High School from 1963 until 1974, at which time he became the assistant principal. He was then principal until he retired in 1998.

He volunteered with the Northampton Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, various high school clubs, assisted Northampton County seniors with Medicare enrollment and helped make pierogies at St. Michael’s Church. He was on the bereavement committee at Queenship of Mary Church and was a rosary prayer leader at Sacred Heart Assisted Living.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Knights of Columbus, the Historical Society and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. He was a former member and past president of the former Northampton Rotary Club until its disbandment.

He is survived by two daughters, Michele Wolgamuth of Northampton and her children Megan (Tyler Dieter) and Justin (Alejandra) and Mary (Scott Gunter) of Bradford and her children Jonah, Benjamin, Lily and Kate; a son, Frank C. (Marcela) of La Vista, Neb., and his children Isabella and Xavier; and four great-grandchildren, Jaxton, Alia, Valerie and Nicole.

There will be a calling time 9-10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m., Dec. 15 at Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton.
