Exchange Club honors faculty

Northampton Exchange Club paid tribute to three Northampton Area High School faculty members - Rebecca Wagner, Barbara Christman and Marilyn White - during a Nov. 7 dinner meeting, where they were named NAHS Employees of the Month.

The tradition began three years ago when NAHS librarian Sally Madden was the first recipient.

At the program, held at Northampton Banquet and Event Center, Exchange Club President Wayne Mery cited the accomplishments of the women, totaling nearly eight decades in the educational field. The honorees received certificates in appreciation for their service and dedication to the students and NAHS.

Principal Luke Shafnisky lauded the accomplishments of the women.

Wagner, October Employee of the Month, has 18 years of experience in the educational field, all as a member of the science department at NAHS. Wagner’s proudest professional accomplishment is the students whom she teaches and has taught. Her colleagues said Wagner is very aware of the responsibility of her profession and thrives in knowing she can make a difference in the world every day.

“There is no other job in the world that will allow one to influence the trajectory of so many in such significant ways,” Wagner said.

She received Regional All American honors in softball during her college years at Moravian College.

Christman, September Employee of the Month, has been employed by NASD for 29-1/2 years as an instructional assistant in the NAHS library. The administration and her peers said Christman, an NAHS graduate, finds her job rewarding and is recognized as one of the most helpful and professional people at the high school. Her work in the school library was lauded.

White, May Employee of the Month, has 30 years in the education profession. She has been employed at NAHS for 19 years. White is an unsung hero who perseveres quietly with determination and who has a big impact on students and peers at NAHS, it was mentioned. A respected member of the English department, she has diligently guided her 11th-grade honors students to success with her rigorous expectations and no-nonsense approach, her peers said.

Accolades were plentiful for the honorees from the faculty and administration.
