In a shortened version of the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting Nov. 15, commissioners approved the advertising of the 2019 Lower Macungie Township budget. Commissioner Brian Higgins complimented Bruce Beitel, township manager, for being able to come into this as the new person and for it to all fall into place right on time.

A request was made through Commissioner Douglas Brown that residents who speak at the commissioners meetings should not have to vocalize their addresses. This is due to live broadcasts. It was agreed that as long as an address is written, the address does not need to be spoken into the record.

The executive director of the Community Action League of the Lehigh Valley wrote a letter of thanks for a $5,000 donation from the township to the municipal fund appeal. This fund helps the homeless of the Lehigh Valley.

Township Engineer Alan Fornwalt provided updates on various projects within the township. CVS was scheduled to open the week of Nov. 18. There have been delays due to weather.

The Wild Cherry Park parking lot is ready to be blacktopped but delayed due to weather.

Permits have not been received for the Spring Creek Park project yet. Brown requested the board be advised as soon as the permits are received.

The Ancient Oak problem with mosquitoes will be reviewed in the spring as the township will partner with Penn State Outreach to find solutions for the pests.

Stream debris and water management will be evaluated with educational groups. The flooding at Woodbine Road and Catalpa Drive is also a continuing project of studying and planning for solutions.

Willow Lane and Mertztown Road truck restrictions have a change in regulations. Signage will be available as soon as this regulation change is completed.
