LOWER MACUNGIE COLUMN

Lower Macungie Library will host a Santa Celebration 10:30 a.m. Dec. 1. There will be stories, crafts, games and snacks to celebrate Santa. Bring your camera.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Dec. 5 to discuss “A Piece of the World” by Christina Baker Kline. There will also be a holiday luncheon. The book for January 2019 is “The Greater Journey” by David McCullough.

The Make-It Monday craft for children ages two and up with adult supervision will be offered 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10. Clean-up begins promptly 7:30 p.m.

The December Classic Conversation will feature Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 11. Ebenezer Scrooge will host his first Christmas party in an interactive theatrical. The evening will also include playing parlor games. Register in advance.

The teen advisory board for grades six through 12 will meet 3:30 p.m. Dec. 14.

Wednesday Whiz-Kids for students in grades kindergarten to five will be held 4:30 p.m. Dec. 19. The program offers hands-on fun with a different topic each month.

Preschool storytimes have resumed for the fall. The schedule can be found on the library website www.lowermaclib.org.

Class size is limited and registration is required for many of these events.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit the Lower Macungie Community Center 1-3 p.m. Dec. 2. Bar None Photography will be available to take pictures with Santa. Avoid the crowds at the mall.

Concordia Lutheran Church, 2623 Brookside Road, will host an Advent supper 6 p.m. and an Advent service 7 p.m. Dec. 5, 12 and 19. For more information, call the church at 610-965-3265.

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society will hold Christmas at the Log House 4-7 p.m. Dec. 9. There will be an open house at the historic Bortz log house at the Wescosville Recreation area on Route 222. The house will be decorated for Christmas in period fashion and lighted by candles. All are welcome. The log house is located near the eastern entrance of the new Hamilton Crossings shopping center.

The Lower Macungie Garden Club will meet 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at the community center.

The Ancient Oaks Womens Organization will hold its Christmas party 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at St. Pauls UCC. There will be a cookie exchange and re-gift. Donations will be matched by the treasury fund for a needy family.

The hoagie sale was a success. There is no meeting scheduled in January 2019.

AOWO wishes a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the Ancient Oaks community. They hope to see everyone at their next meeting Feb. 6, 2019.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Dec. 4 and 18 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

The community center is collecting children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local children. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 14.

Curbside leaf collection continues through Dec. 3. Leaves must be out for collection by Dec. 3.

The community center offers a number of activities. Classes include card making classes, community meal prep, belly dance, ballroom dance, Tai Chi, Zumba, Pilates, adult and youth tennis lessons. Children’s activities include Toddlers and Tutus, Kindermusik, Minecraft, cooking, robotics and soccer. For more information, contact the community center at 610-966-6924.

Family open gym time is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site winter hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, noon-5 p.m. The site is closed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.
