The Allentown Cedntral Catholic High School 2021 Student Council held a Glow-in-the-Dark Bowling Tournament Nov. 9. The event was held in Masson Auditorium and was a fun night for all in attendance.

Two senior student athletes have recently been recognized by local organizations.

Viking football running back Logan Bachman was named as an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South All-Star First Team Offensive Player.

Vikette volleyball player Rachel Hess was Coordinated Health’s Athlete of the Week. Hess made six kills during the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association 3A quarterfinal playoffs, where the Vikettes defeated Villa Maria in three sets.

The Vikette volleyball team competed in the PIAA 3A Volleyball Semifinals against West York at Exeter Township High School Nov. 13. The Vikettes were defeated 3-2.

The Central City Project, ACCHS’ community outreach program, hosted a Thanksgiving meal Nov. 14 at Immaculate Conception Church in Allentown. All members of the community were welcomed. The homemade meal was prepared and served by students and teachers.

The varsity and junior varsity Scholastic Scrimmage teams were champions at the Southern Lehigh Spartan Quizbowl Nov. 17. The varsity team consisted of Alan Garger, Karina Mihura, Ryan Schanta and Alex Strohl. The junior varsity team included Katie Cavanagh, Harrison DeWalt, Anthony Hudak and Jane Kamioner.

ACCHS’s open house was held Nov. 18. Visitors had the chance to tour the school, talk with students and shop at Viking Christmas, a market-style event featuring Central Catholic merchandise.

Kairos XIX, a four-day retreat for seniors, was held Nov. 18 to 21 at the Jesuit Center for Spiritual Growth in Wernersville. During the retreat, seniors spent time examining their relationships with themselves, God and others. When the students returned to Central Catholic, they were greeted by past Kairos retreat participants and leaders.

The National Honor Society recently held a Thanksgiving canned food drive. Donations were given to Catholic Charities. Participating students earned a spirit dress down day and the homeroom with the most donations won a breakfast.

The drama club will present “Willa Wonkie and the College Tour” 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in Masson Auditorium. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door; email Renee Serencsits at rserencsits@acchs.info to reserve tickets.

The Viking wrestling team is looking for sponsors. A sponsorship will add a company name or logo to one of the sponsorship banners hanging in Rockne Hall for the 2018-2019 season. Sponsors will also be listed on the team website, acchswrestling.com. Proceeds will be used for training supplies, team gear and the team’s trip to the Battle at the Beach at Indian River High School in Delaware Dec. 28-29. A flier can be found on the school’s Facebook page. Orders, logos and payment must be received by Nov. 30 to be included on the banners. ACCHS is helping to fundraise for Team 17 in support of Berks Catholic student Anthony Meyers, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Specialized shirts for schools in the area have been designed to help fundraise and Central Catholic’s shirt can be purchased on the team’s website, team17strong.org. Central will also hold a dress down day Dec. 17 to support the cause.
