ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNcil

Alburtis Borough Council Vice-President Steven Hill chaired the Nov. 14 Alburtis Borough Council meeting due to the absence of President Ron DeIaco. Also absent was Councilperson Stephen Kaufman.

Mayor Kathleen Palmer swore in new full-time police officer Broc Termini, who has been working for the borough part time since December 2017.

Robert and Jill Marks attended the meeting to express a concern about a neighbor they believe has someone living in a recreational vehicle. Zoning Officer David Kutzor has been working on this issue. The RV is now parked legally in the side yard but he has no real proof that someone is living in it. He will continue to go by each day and Mayor Palmer will have the officers check on this situation periodically as well.

Resident Ted Miller spoke with council regarding the borough garbage rates. He said it was reported in the East Penn Press the rate was changing from $45 to $47 one week and reported differently another week. He was told the borough’s garbage rate is $74 per quarter and is based on the contracted price divided by the number of dwelling units. Miller was not aware the rate was figured per household and understands now why the borough rate is higher.

Council passed a motion approving the meeting minutes of Oct. 29. Council passed a motion approving the bills of Nov. 14 for payment. The treasurer’s report was approved.

Council passed a motion unanimously adopting Ordinance No. 549, the Southwestern Comprehensive Plan.

Council passed a motion unanimously adopting Ordinance No. 550, A New Hazard Mitigation Plan for the borough.

Council passed unanimously a motion adopting Ordinance No. 551, amending the borough’s Civil Service Commission Rules and Regulations.

Borough Manager Sharon Trexler was asked by council to check and see if Gary’s Tree & Shrubbery Service Inc. to treat the mimosa webworm was needed and to obtain other quotes.

Correspondence was received about the annual plant sale for the Crime Victims Council.

Council approved a quote from ServiceMaster to get the floors and rugs cleaned.
