Several former Northwestern Lehigh High School athletes made significant contributions on college athletic teams during the fall 2018 season. Here’s a look at some of them.

Lehigh’s Sabrina Mertz capped a memorable collegiate soccer career just a couple of weeks ago. In the forward’s final season with the Mountain Hawks, Mertz scored a team-high five goals and added two assists as Lehigh advanced to the Patriot League championship game. Her biggest goal of the season came against Colgate in the Patriot League semifinals when she scored the game-winner in the 90th minute. She leaves Lehigh with 16 goals and 11 assists. Her seven game-winning goals ranks first in program history.

After an injury in her freshman season, redshirt junior Sarah Segan has put that setback completely behind her. In her third season on the field this past fall, Segan scored six goals and added four assists for the William & Mary women’s soccer team. Both of those were a team high for The Tribe, and no other player scored more than two goals. She finished with 23 shots on goal. Segan now has 24 goals and 10 assists through three seasons, seven of those goals being game-winners. She was named to the All-CCA Second-Team in each of the past two seasons, and it’s likely she’ll end up on another of those teams once again when announced.

Slippery Rock sophomore forward Courtney Page had a successful season for the school’s field hockey team. After posting two goals and two assists as a freshman, Page took another step forward in 2018. In starting all 18 games, the former Tiger scored three goals and added two assists this fall. She finished with 14 shots on goal and a .778 shot-on-goal percentage.

JD Haaf, who just finished his junior season on the Elizabethtown College men’s soccer team, once again contributed at a high level. Haaf played in 19 of the team’s 20 games (seven starts) and finished tied for second on the team in goals scored with five. His four assists also ranked second on the team this past fall, and Haaf finished with 14 points, just behind teammate Gilbert Waso, as the Blue Jays won their first Landmark Conference Championship in program history. Haaf sits at 13 goals and 12 assists for his career.

Lehigh senior Cam Richardson capped his collegiate football career with a solid season with the Mountain Hawks. He played on both sides of the ball, and made his biggest impact on defense with nine total tackles (seven solo). Richardson also recorded a reception for two yards and one touchdown.

Shaelin De Wit, a freshman on Molloy College’s field hockey team, made an immediate impact for the Lions. She started in 11 games and finished fourth on the team with five assists.

Moravian junior Rachel Mikols put together another successful campaign for the Greyhounds’ cross country team. She placed 34th at the Landmark Conference Championships as Moravian placed second as a team. She ran a collegiate-best 21:26.8 in the 5K event at the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen Invite on September 8, placing 49th in that race.

DeSales junior defender Keegan Coffield started in eight of the Bulldogs’ 17 games this past season. He scored two goals from that defender position, and played a total of 673 minutes on the field. Coffield also added an assist as a freshman.

Abby Chisdak, a freshman on the DeSales women’s soccer team, made an impact during her first collegiate season. The former Tiger played in nine games-with five of them being starts-and logged 484 minutes of field time at the defender position. She played at least 70 minutes in four games this fall.

Allegheny College freshman Molly Tarvin has made an immediate impact on her college team. Tarvin placed fifth for her team and 53rd overall at the Great Lakes Regional Championships. She finished in 23:22.7. Allegheny took second as a team to earn an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships.

Moravian freshman Andrew Goodolf stepped into his role on the men’s soccer team and had a quick impact for the Greyhounds. He played in 17 games, made two starts and scored one goal.

Wilkes University freshman runner Phillip Castrine recently completed his first collegiate season. He ran a career 8K best in 29:27.7 in the Cougar Classic on September 15.

Hannah Herzon’s freshman season on the Dickinson College cross country team was a success. She ran in six meets this fall, capping her campaign with a 43rd-place finish at the Centennial Conference Championships in 28:38.

Seton Hill freshman kicker Hunter Miller made seven of 10 extra point attempts this past season. He also punted seven times against Mercyhurst with a 34.14 average.
