Recently, the railings surrounding Triangle Park in Emmaus were festooned with over 300 hand knitted and crocheted scarves provided by members of the Emmaus Lioness Lions Club. This rainbow of scarves invited pedestrians to come, look and wear home. Each scarf bore a hang tag stating it was free for the taking.
The Emmaus Lioness Lions Club is supporting Lions Club International’s celebration of its 100th year by giving back to the community. In addition to scarves, passersby could choose from a variety of handmade winter hats.
In support of this event, all the Emmaus Lionesses gave generously of their time, talent and creativity. Several were extremely productive. Nancy Keller, although unable to attend the event, created 100 scarves and Pat Mattes provided hats for the Lionesses to distribute even though she is not a club member.
Founded by Susan Huxley, the “Chase the Chill” scarf giveaway originated in Easton in 2008. The purpose of the activity is, as stated in the group’s media advisory, “… to celebrate the art and beauty of knitting and crocheting, building community, generating positive interest in a location and sharing with others.”
This year’s “Chase the Chill,” as carried out by the Emmaus Lioness Lions Club, met and exceeded each of these goals.
