LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My amazing family is made up of my mom Marta, my dad Pawel, my sister Oliwia, basset hound Roman, cat Kaska and my bearded dragon Knut.

Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior?

A. I enjoy that as a senior there were no surprises when I walked into Emmaus High School for my fourth year and the freedom the title provides. For me, however, the best part about being a senior is the fact that next year I will be a freshman again. I am most excited for college and the journey ahead.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is definitely computer science. Computers have surrounded my life since I can remember. I used a keyboard long before I wrote my first sentence. Thanks to Mrs. Stoudt and Mrs. Blackstone, who lead the incredible computer science program at EHS, I have been exposed to so many competitions and opportunities that have greatly increased my skills.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am an Eagle Scout, as well as a member of the Scouting National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow. As a part of the EHS swim team, we have won the District XI Championship title and the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference for the past three years. In my junior year, I was the grade level winner for PA Math League. I have Principal’s Honor Rolls, Academic Excellence awards and am a member of the National and German National Honor Societies. I have also contributed to Emmaus’ second place victory at the Lehigh County Envirothon.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. My extracurricular activities have and continue to take up most of my time. I am involved in the Boy Scouts of America, participate in EMAC, a year-round competitive swim team, as well as in the EHS swim team, am part of the American Computer Science League, Pennsylvania Math League and Envirothon. This past summer I also helped to create “STEM Fun,” an organization at the Emmaus Public Library which aims to introduce elementary school kids into science, technology, engineering and math. I also work as a lifeguard in my free time.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My goal after high school is to attend college to pursue a degree in computer science or cyber security. In the end, I hope to one day start my own company, but we shall see what life has in store.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I have always had trouble with time management. The balance between extracurriculars and school has never really been hard or overwhelming, but I like to consider myself working best under pressure, so everything was usually left to the last second.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I want to be remembered for my optimism, hard work and risk-taking personality.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. My parents will forever be my biggest admiration. Coming from Poland with my little sister, no knowledge of the English language, and heads filled with big dreams, they were able to start a new life despite the roadblocks.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. The biggest piece of advice I could give is to not be afraid to try new things. When I came into high school I wanted to get art out of the way, so I took the 3D foundations course not expecting anything special. Originally hoping to just get myself through the required class, I soon found myself in love with ceramics, a passion that continues to this day. You may find yourself in the same position, you may find yourself hating the decision, either way the first step is to take a risk. Also, take computer science, it touches every aspect of our lives.
