‘Spirit of Vienna’ for PSO concert

Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, led by Music Director Dr. Allan Birney, presents “Spirit of Vienna,” 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17, First Presbyterian Church Allentown, 3231 W. Tilghman St., Allentown.

Of the four composers represented on the program, three spent significant time in Vienna, Austria, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Violinist Janet Sung is guest soloist for Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto in D,” Op. 61.

Two choral works will be performed by the orchestra and Camerata Singers. “Inter Natos Mulierum,” K. 72 is an offertory anthem for four-part voices and strings, written in 1771 by a teen-age Wolfgang A. Mozart, for St. John the Baptist Day, June 24.

The contemporary American composer on the program, Bob Ingalls, lives and writes outside of Seattle, Wash. His piece, “Ave Maria for mixed choir and string orchestra,” was awarded 1st Prize in 2015 at the prestigious Sacrarium International Sacred Music Composition Competition in L’viv, Ukraine.

The concert opens with “Symphony No. 5 in B flat” by Franz Schubert, written in his teen-age years.
