Hot, hot hot: The Hot Club of Philadelphia, performs in the “Jazz Upstairs” series, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16, Rodale Community Room, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. The Hot Club of Philadelphia was started in 2001 by guitarist Barry Wahrhaftig. The group is an acoustic ensemble dedicated to playing “Gypsy Jazz,” a style pioneered by the Hot Club of France Quintet, led by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli. Bassist Jim Stager has been with The Hot Club from the beginning. Joshua Machiz, Alexandre Hiele and Dylan Taylor perform with the band frequently. Dan Pearce is the second guitarist. Violinist is Joseph Arnold. Clarinetists are Bob Butryn and Paul Butler. The band features vocalists Phyllis Chapell and Cecilia Ferneborg. The group has performed at The Kimmel Center, The World Café Live, The Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia Museum of Art, all Philadelphia; Sellersville Theater, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. BÖC: Blue Öyster Cult peforms at 8 p.m. Nov. 16, Penn’s Peak, Jim Thorpe. The Long Island, N.Y.--based band released its self--titled debut album in 1972. Its hits include “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” from 1976’s “Agents of Fortune,” “Godzilla” from 1977’s “Spectres” and “Burnin’ for You” from 1981’s “Fire of Unknown Origin.” BÖC’s original core duo of vocalist-lead guitarist Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser and vocalist-rhythm guitarist Eric Bloom are complemented by Richie Castellano on guitar and keyboards, and the longtime rhythm section of bass guitarist Danny Miranda and drummer Jules Radino. Something Stoopid: The “Just Passing Through” Fall 2018 tour of Slightly Stoopid stops for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17, Penn’s Peak, Jim Thorpe. The Ocean Beach, Calif.,-based band formed by multi-instrumentalists Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty includes drummer Ryan “Rymo” Moran; percussionist Oguer “OG” Ocon; saxophonist Daniel “Dela” Delacruz; keyboardist Paul Wolstencroft, and trumpet and trombone player Andy Geib. Slightly Stoopid’s sound is a fusion of folk, rock, reggae and blues with hip-hop, funk, metal and punk.. The group has released 13 albums, inlcluding four live albums. A ninth studio album, “Everyday Life, Everyday People,” was released in July 2018. Opening the concert is Hirie.
