At the Macungie Borough Council meeting Nov. 5, the ordinance for rental inspection was approved. All rental units must be registered and then inspected. Macungie used the International Maintenance Property Code as a guide.

Residents told council members about homeowners who do not take care of their properties. Uncut grass, broken fences and other unkempt situations brings wildlife to neighboring properties. Poorly kept properties devalue neighbors’ properties. The recent event with the hoarding of animals was in a rental property.

A resident expressed concern about who would perform the inspections. It is also suspected landlords will pass on the fee to tenants.

A job description for the rental inspector will be developed as well as a fee schedule.

State Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, issued a certificate of recognition acknowledging Macungie Borough for receiving the Community of Distinction Award.

State Rep. Ryan MacKenzie, R-134th, issued a citation acknowledging the award as well.

Mayor Ron Conrad said Mack Truck lights are annoying some residents due to lights shining in their windows.

The Macungie Halloween Parade and Trick or Treat went well.

The Macungie tree lighting event will be Nov. 27.

The recycling event for Macungie and Alburtis boroughs was well received. Staff checked identifications to make sure recycling items were from residents.

Macungie entered into an agreement with the Southwestern Lehigh County Comprehensive Plan involving Macungie, Alburtis and Emmaus boroughs and Lower Macungie Township and Upper and Lower Milford townships .

An ordinance was established for parking restrictions along Village Walk Drive. The ordinance will allow for only passenger cars and light trucks to park in this area.

Leaf collection was to begin Nov. 5 but due to rain, moved to Nov. 6. If raining Nov. 6, leaf collection will begin Nov. 7.

A grant application will move forward for the Cotton Street pedestrian bridge.
