The Lower Macungie Library’s “A Taste of Soup” was held Oct. 27 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center.
Kathee Rhode, library executive director, announced there would be three challenges – individual, restaurant and Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners. The winning entry in each challenge would be recognized as “Lower Macungie Library’s Best Soup.”
Local restaurants, caterers and individuals were invited to submit their favorite soup(s) for the third annual competition. All entrants prepared two gallons of soup.
Susan Nenstiel, event chair, explained the details of the event. Individuals and businesses paid an entry fee per type of soup. The public tasted all the soups and voted for their favorite. The soup with the most votes in each category won.
The bread sponsors for the event were Dr. and Mrs. Leonard Herman. The cup sponsors were Dain and Jean King and Missy DePesto. The thermos sponsor was Rhode.
The winners were: Restaurant – East Penn Diner, Individual – Jill Knolle, Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners – Ron Beitler and Staff – Sarah Meitzler.
All proceeds from this event benefit the programs and services of Lower Macungie Library.
