LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

187th Legislative District

The winning candidate will serve a two-year term in office.

The Lehigh Valley Press weekly newspapers asked the candidates for the 187th Legislative District the following question: Is enough being done on the state level to battle the opioid crisis? Please explain.

Michael Blichar Jr., Democrat

The opioid crisis is one of the worst public health epidemics in Pennsylvania, especially in our rural communities. As someone who has personally known those lost to opioid addiction, I have made it a priority as a candidate to addressing this growing issue. I believe that the Pennsylvania Department of Health has gained significant headway in addressing the issue including the prescription drug monitoring program and the patient non-opioid directive. However, there is much more that can be done including proactively educating our youth about the dangers of substance use and holding big pharma accountable for contributing to this issue.

Gary Day, Republican
