Steckel Elementary School students are encouraged and recognized for their good deeds and positive attitudes.
Steckel held a schoolwide positive behavior assembly Sept. 27 in the gymnasium of Whitehall High School. This event was filled with encouraging words, relay races and memorable performances. Students and staff wore maroon, gold and white to show their Zephyr mascot pride.
Steckel’s principal, Cora Snyder, spoke to the students and reminded them to be STARS. STARS stands for being Safe, a Team player, an Achiever and Respectful and showing Self-discipline. These attributes are emphasized for the students to emulate. She made sure the students knew about different incentives offered for good behavior.
As a special treat, the Whitehall High School cheerleading squad performed for the students.
There were also a variety of relay races. In one race, students had to put on an oversized basketball uniform. Another included a scooter race. Some teachers even got involved with the scooter race as well.
Students were treated to a special choreographed dance by the teachers as a reward for their good behavior.
This annual event kicks off the school year and reminds students to be STARS every day.
