LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Carson Swick

Grade: 12

Family members: My mom and dad, no siblings or pets

Favorite subject(s): English, journalism, and social studies. I like to write and be creative. Journalism keeps me engaged with all the goings-on around me, and it helps me establish a good reputation at school. I also like social studies because I’ve always been interested in history, politics, and world affairs.

Activities: The Freedom Forum, FHS Chess Team, and Travel Club

Next steps (after high school): Dual major in journalism and history at the University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!!) and pursue some kind of reporting or broadcasting. I could also see myself becoming a high school history teacher.

Career goals: Reporter, news anchor, or history teacher

Heroes: My grandmother. She spent countless hours with me as a child, and I credit her for my patience and ability to speak to all different audiences, especially adults and senior citizens.

Hobbies: Playing and watching football, swimming, and going on bike rides

Current job(s): I work for the BTCC as a playground counselor. I also work birthday parties there.

Volunteer/community work: I teach chess to children at the Southern Lehigh Public Library.

Likes: Meeting new people, leading by example, and Beach Boys music

Dislikes: Advanced math courses, insecure people, and New York drivers in the left lane

Greatest accomplishment (so far): Successfully publishing the October 2018 Issue of The Freedom Forum and beating Parkland’s chess team for the Lehigh Valley championship my sophomore year!

Advice for peers: In high school, everyone tries to blend in. But as soon as you get past high school, commoners get lost in the crowd and live average lives. Be yourself, stop worrying about being so much like those around you. It is cliche, but cliches become cliches for a reason.

Student profile subjects are selected by faculty and administration at the individual schools.
