EMMAUS FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Lehigh County 911 Center dispatched Emmaus Fire Department and Western Salisbury Fire Department firefighters to a reported garage fire in the 900 block of Glenwood St., Emmaus, shortly after 5 a.m., Oct. 10.

Emmaus Police Department patrol officers were the first on-scene and reported a “working fire.”

Emmaus Fire Departments engines and crews, followed shortly by Western Salisbury Fire Department firefighters, attacked the intense fire, which had fully engulfed the structure by the time the engines arrived.

A second alarm was immediately sounded, bringing equipment and manpower from Eastern Salisbury and Vera Cruz fire stations, as well as South Whitehall’s air tank replenishment truck and a Rapid Intervention Team firefighter safety crew from Alburtis Fire Department.

Macungie and Emmaus ambulance personnel provided hydration and rehabilitation services to check the vital signs of firefighters involved in the effort.

Emmaus Fire Chief John Price credited quick action by firefighters who were able to contain the fire to the garage structure and keep it from spreading to the adjacent residence.

At least one vehicle and tools were destroyed in the two-bay garage as well as an attached wood shop. The garage was a total loss.

Vehicles parked near the garage were heavily damaged. Siding was melted and some damage was apparent to the residence which was immediately adjacent to the garage.
