131st DISTRICT

Rep. Justin Simmons, R-131st, announced Safe Schools Targeted Grants totaling nearly $100,000 were awarded in the 131st District, including the East Penn School District.

The funding was made available through a Pennsylvania Department of Education program to prevent and reduce violent incidents in schools, to purchase safety and security-related equipment and to provide for the training and compensation of school resource officers and school police officers.

Local grants include $24,955 awarded to the East Penn School District for equipment and $39,970 awarded to the Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley, 2313 Pennsylvania St., Allentown, for a school police officer.

PDE awarded Safe Schools Targeted Grants totaling approximately $8.4 million to schools entities statewide.
