Driver identified in fatal South Whitehall crash

A 37-year-old Carbon County man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash around 9:08 p.m. Oct. 21 in the 1700 block of Mauch Chunk Road, South Whitehall Township.

A South Whitehall police spokesperson talked with The Press Oct. 23.

“We know who the driver is but are not releasing the name,” the spokesperson said. “It is still under investigation.”

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said Scott T. White of Palmerton was pronounced dead 9:38 p.m. Sunday by Deputy Coroner Cassandra Schiffner. An autopsy was performed Oct. 23.

According to First Deputy Coroner Eric Minnich on Oct. 24, White’s death was due to multiple blunt force trauma from a pedestrian/motor vehicle accident. White’s death was ruled an accident.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicated a 2014-17 silver Toyota Highlander was involved.

The vehicle sustained front grille and bumper damage, and possibly has a broken passenger side headlight, police say.
