Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine
Leen Jerjos, of Whitehall, a member of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s (GCSOM) MBS Class of 2019, took part in the American Medical Women’s Association’s (AMWA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference at GCSOM Sept. 15. The purpose of the AMWA conference was to provide networking opportunities for future medical professionals and to provide career strategies and negotiation skills to advance careers.
The conference was a collaborative effort with the Region 3 director, Elizabeth (Ellie) Boyle, a fourth-year medical student of GCSOM, along with other members of the regional board and GCSOM’s AMWA student chapter. AMWA leadership at GCSOM includes medical students Jessica Knapp, president; Jenna Marinock, vice president; Elizabeth (Ellie) Tupper, secretary; Brittney Ehrlich, treasurer; and Hannah Bohr, historian.
GCSOM’s AMWA chapter held a feminine hygiene product drive in the weeks leading up to the conference. That day, the students assembled tote bags containing the donated items to be delivered to the Catherine McAuley Center, a local women’s shelter.

Susquehanna University
Kaitlyn Gardineer, of Walnutport, presented research this summer at the 10th annual Landmark Conference Summer Research Symposium. The event was hosted by Juniata College.
Her research, supervised by Dan Ressler, associate professor of earth and environmental sciences, discusses collecting and applying tree data to forest management plans.
The symposium brings together undergraduate researchers from colleges and universities within the NCAA’s Division III Landmark Conference, which includes Susquehanna. Students presented the results of the summer research done in collaboration with faculty in poster displays or oral presentation sessions.
Gardineer, an earth and environmental sciences and traditional art major in the Class of 2021, is a 2017 graduate of Northampton Area High School and the daughter of Joy Gardineer.
Susquehanna University is a selective, residential liberal arts college that provides a solid background in the liberal arts and sciences, as well as professional experiences.
