Judging by some of the film Salisbury football head coach Andy Cerco was able to watch on Palmerton, it seems as if the Blue Bombers are also dealing with key injuries to their playmakers.

When the two teams kick off on Friday night in Palmerton, both will look to get back on the winning side of the seesaw after a rough past couple of weeks. Salisbury and Palmerton are both sitting at 2-6 in the Colonial League’s West Division after losses in Week 8.

“They have some really talented football players,” Cerco said. “They struggled the past couple of weeks, and going into this game it’s really anybody’s game at this point. I think they’ve had some injuries, too.”

Palmerton is coming off last week’s close 28-27 loss to Wilson on Saturday. Salisbury has dropped its last two after beating Catasauqua in Week 6.

Jordan Nielsen, who lined up at wide receiver earlier in the season, now looks to be Palmerton’s quarterback for the remainder of the season. He played last week against Wilson and nearly lifted the Blue Bombers to their second straight win.

Nielsen is Palmerton’s leading rusher, running for 364 yards and seven touchdowns, so expect the Blue Bombers to still use him in that category. But they are a spread team that is capable of throwing the ball on the outside. He’s completed 27 of 59 passes for 375 yards and one touchdown on the season.

“They try to do a little bit of both,” Cerco said. “They are primarily a spread team. I don’t think they use a tight end. Maybe they have only a handful of times, if at all. I think the last game they were completely spread with no tight ends with an inside zone type or a trap look and a quarterback counter type of thing.”

The Blue Bombers have a number of running backs who can handle the workload out of the backfield. Aaron Stasko has run for 350 yards and a score, while Andrew Sabo has scored five touchdowns on 315 yards.

Tanner Burnett has been strong as of late and also has scored five times out of the backfield.

“They still have a couple of good players that are really good and really fast,” Cerco said. “ [Burnett] I think is one of their primary running backs. I know [Stasko] and [Cody Waterhouse] did some good things on film. They are definitely able to move the ball.”

Stasko is one of Palmerton’s leaders in the passing game as well, hauling in 14 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns. Eli Rivera leads the way with 312 receiving yards and 17 receptions.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Palmerton High School.
