The Church of the Good Shepherd U.C.C., 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, will hold a presentation on the biblical teachings found in the contemporary stained glass windows during the service 10:30 a.m. Oct. 21. The symbolism of the images in the windows will be related to the teachings of the Old and New Testaments. All are welcome.
The Macungie Minstrelaires will present “Singing Through the Seasons” at Lower Macungie Middle School. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Oct. 26, 27 and Nov. 2 and 3. Matinees are 2 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, will hold his annual Senior Expo 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at the community center. There will be exhibitors from local, state and federal agencies as well as senior focused organizations. There will also be free health screenings, a light lunch and door prizes. There will be a free document shredding event sponsored by state Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, state Rep, Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th and the township 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Lower Macungie Township parking lot.
The Fall Festival scheduled Oct. 20 at Concordia Lutheran Church has been cancelled.
Trick or Treating in Lower Macungie Township will be held 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31. Some homeowner’s associations may have set alternate dates for their neighborhoods.
The Lower Macungie Garden Club will meet 1 p.m. Nov. 14 at the community center.
In Ancient Oaks news, there will be a hoagie sale in October. There will be no Halloween decorating contest this year.
The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Nov. 6 and 20 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.
The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 13th Annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and phone cards will be accepted at the community center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and 8-10 a.m. Sunday through Nov. 25. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center. Over the last 12 years, 1,093 boxes of donated items were sent to 123 soldiers.
The community center is collecting children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 14.
There will be a Stuff the Truck Event 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 3 at the community center. Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will accept donations of unwanted new or gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies.
There will be breakfast with everyone’s favorite mouse 9-10:30 a.m. Nov. 3 for children infant to 12 years old with a parent or caregiver at the community center. Advanced registration is required.
The 10th annual Craft/Vendor Fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at the community center. Over 100 crafters and vendors will participate. Brookside Deli will offer lunch 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A free shuttle from the parking lot to the door is provided by Corporate Limousine.
Curbside leaf collection begins the week of Oct. 22 and continues through Dec. 3. Leaves must be out for collection by Dec. 3.
The community center offers a number of activities. Classes include card making classes, community meal prep, belly dance, ballroom dance, Tai Chi, Zumba, Pilates, adult and youth tennis lessons. Children’s activities include Toddlers and Tutus, Kindermusik, Minecraft, cooking, robotics and soccer. For more information, contact the community center at 610-966-6924.
Family open gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.
Yard waste site hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Winter hours starting Nov. 1 are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, The center is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Yard waste permits are required for dropoff.
The Lower Macungie Library will host a public education program, Redistricting Reform: Ending Gerrymandering in PA, 6 p.m. Oct. 30. Fair Districts speaker Mary Erdman will explain the redistricting process including how it undermines democracy and offer a solution to the redistricting problem.
The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Nov. 7 to discuss “A Piece of the World” by Christina Baker Kline. The book for December is “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult.
The teen advisory board for grades six to 12 will meet 3:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and Nov. 9.
Make-It Monday Craft for children ages two and up with adult supervision will be offered 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 and Nov. 12. Cleanup begins promptly 7:30 p.m.
Classic Conversations will feature Laura Ingalls Wilder 6 p.m. Oct. 23. The informal discussion will focus on Little House on the Prairie as well as her other works.
There will be a Trick or Treat Storytime 10:30 a.m. Oct. 27. Wear your favorite costume and come for some not-so-spooky stories and a chance to trick-or-treat in the library.
Wednesday Whiz-Kids for students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be held 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7. The program offers hands-on fun with a different topic each month.
Afterschool Buckets of Nature for students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be held 4 p.m. Nov. 13. The Lehigh County Conservation District will present “Thank You, Mother Nature.”
Businesses and individuals can compete for the title of “Lower Macungie Library’s Best Soup” at the third annual Taste of Soup noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 27. There is an entry fee for competitors and an admission fee for tasters who will receive tickets to vote. Proceeds benefit the library. For more information, contact the circulation desk.
The fall book sale will be held 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 16 and 17. The member preview night is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15. Memberships will be available at the door. All proceeds will benefit the library.
