LEHIGH COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

‘The animals are safe and sound,” Lehigh County Humane Society CEO Hal Warner said of the animals recovered from a home in the 900 block of Hillcrest Drive South Oct. 15.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Oct. 15, the Macungie Police Department received a call for unattended dogs at the home.

Upon arrival and after assessing the situation with the homeowner who rented the home to a family member, police contacted the Lehigh County Humane Society to remove approximately 100 animals including rabbits, rats, several dozen snakes, three husky dogs, two pot bellied pigs and several dozen exotic birds.

“Today, reptile and bird experts are coming in to evaluate the animals to determine what the best course of action will be,” Warner said in a telephone interview Oct. 16.

“The animals are being examined and cleaned up. The pigs are at a rescue farm,” Warner said. “They are getting the care they need.”

Warner confirmed there were dead snakes and reptiles found in the home.

Warner said the humane society is not in need of cages or food for the animals or foster families at this time.

The Lehigh County Humane Society Animal Cruelty Office Barbara Morgan will be investigating charges in this case as well as the case with the 65 beagles.
