When Salisbury hosts Bangor in Week 8 of the Colonial League football season, both teams will be looking to get back on the winning track.

Salisbury (2-5) is coming off a tough loss to Northern Lehigh a week ago in which several of its play makers were sidelined with injuries. Bangor (3-4) has lost three straight after starting the season 3-1, including last Friday’s 51-13 letdown against Palisades.

Injuries still leave the air cloudy as to who might be able to suit up come Friday night for the Falcons’ Homecoming. But Cerco is certain that those who are on the field will execute to the best of their ability.

“I know one thing: our kids are going to be prepared for the game,” Cerco said. “They are going to be in the right spot to make some plays. At that point we’ll see what happens.”

“We had some injuries here and there some years. That kind of stuff happens, but to this level and the amount of key players we lost, it’s unprecedented.”

Bangor, which also lost to Northwestern (29-21) and Saucon Valley (48-12) in two of the past three weeks, is itching to get back to .500. It will do so behind the Slaters’ big offensive and defensive lines.

Leading the play calling is quarterback Bo Meyers, a mobile threat out of the backfield as well. Meyers has completed 41-of-86 passes for 767 yards on the season to go with four touchdowns and four interceptions.

“They definitely have some players, their offensive line and defense line have pretty good players,” Cerco said. “The quarterback does a pretty nice job. He is mobile and throws a pretty accurate ball.”

But the Slaters’ bread and butter figures to come out of the backfield via a two-headed monster. Garrett DeBoer handles the most work at the running back position, carrying 82 times for 346 yards and four touchdowns. Joey Schrader provides a nice one-two punch with his 402 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Meyers can also run the rock himself. He’s run for three rushing touchdowns thus far and could find the end zone once again on Friday night.

“They have two running backs that carry the ball quite a bit,” Cerco said. “They are good high school running backs.

“They’ve been back and forth, some games they throw the ball more than others. They have the ability to do it more probably than Northern Lehigh did. They have a pretty good offensive line and running backs, so, it would make sense for them to run the ball a little bit more. It’s kind of hit or miss with them. They can do both.”

Kole Blosuk has caught 12 of Meyers’ 41 completions this fall for 247 yards and a touchdown. Nick Davanzo produces the most volume with 11 catches for 247 yards and two touchdowns, while Joe Genteel has 11 catches for 161 yards.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
