Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, will host a Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) seminar 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Blue Mountain Fish and Game Association, 4190 Wood Drive, Walnutport.
“I’m pleased to offer this opportunity for my constituents to learn more about CWD,” Mako said. “Almost 6,000 square miles in the commonwealth are designated disease management areas. In these portions of Pennsylvania, a variety of restrictions have been implemented to stop the spread of the disease. I urge anyone who is available to come to this important seminar in order to gather more information.”
CWD is a contagious, always-fatal disease that infects deer and elk in Pennsylvania. It is transmitted both directly through animal-to-animal contact and indirectly through food and soil contaminated with bodily secretions including feces, urine and saliva. No evidence exists that CWD is transmissible to humans or traditional livestock.
A representative from the Pennsylvania Game Commission will speak about CWD, how the agency is working to contain it and what residents and sportsmen can do to help. The event will conclude with a question-and-answer segment.
Targets and other sportsmen information will be offered.
