Ready, set, go to get the best viewing spot for the popular Emmaus’ annual Halloween parade and Halloween in Emmaus 5K race Oct. 20. Come on out and cheer the runners on and applaud the parade marchers and floats.

The start time for the race is 7 p.m. Prizes are awarded to top runners and costume contest winners. For information, visit Emmaus5k.com. Proceeds from the race benefit the Halloween parade and Emmaus’ parks system.

The parade steps off 7:30 p.m. The event attracts thousands of spectators along the parade route. The rain date for both events is Oct. 21. Volunteers are needed to help with the parade organization. Emmaus’ Trick or Treat night will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26. Please be on the lookout for little ghosts and goblins.

The Emmaus Garden Club meets Oct. 2 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. Social time is noon and the program begins 12:30 p.m. The October program is “Make your own Bookmark with Pressed Flowers” conducted by Linda Conrad, a pressed flower artist with 25 years’ experience. Conrad will use attendees’ flowers or those provided by her during the presentation. She will also have artwork using dried flowers for sale. Guests are always welcome. The kickoff for the popular Emmaus Arts Commission’s 2018 Student Film Festival will be held 6 p.m. Oct. 4. at Emmaus High School cafeteria, 800 Pine St.

During the kickoff event, high school and middle school filmmakers are provided filmmaking tips and techniques and given a theme and required lines. Teams have 120 hours to conceptualize, write, shoot, edit and produce a six-minute film.

The competition is open to any school in the Lehigh Valley and beyond. There is an entry fee.

Those who complete the process vie for prizes and ultimately compete to have their films shown on the big screen. All films are due back Oct. 9. The screening is 2 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Emmaus Theater, followed by an awards ceremony. The public is invited to attend. There is a ticket charge. Parental guidance is suggested. Some material may not be suitable for young children.

The Emmaus Lioness Lions Club’s 22nd annual apple dumpling sale is underway. Apple dumplings can be pre-ordered at 610-967-1720 or from any Lions Club member. Dumplings are available in regular or sugar free. The dumplings will be available for pickup at the Egypt Star Bakery (formerly Emmaus Bakery), 415 Chestnut St., 2-6 p.m. Oct. 7 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8.

The Emmaus Historical Society’s museum, 218 Main St., is haunted with vintage Halloween décor and memorabilia. Emmaline, the wonderful witch, has dropped in to greet all visitors. The program for the Emmaus Historical Society’s Oct. 10 meeting is “On My Honor,” the history of Boy Scout Troops in Emmaus, presented by Glenn Clauser and featuring other prior Emmaus Boy Scout leaders. The museum is asking each attendee to bring a can of food to the program as a way of supporting Scouting for Food, the Boy Scout’s annual nonperishable food drive, which benefits area food banks. The society’s monthly meetings begin 7 p.m. and are held at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, Fifth and Chestnut streets.

The Woman’s Club of Emmaus will hold its annual Fall Luncheon and Card Party, 11:30 a.m. Oct. 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. The funds raised during the event are used to support the club’s graduation and scholarship awards for EHS seniors and other community activities. Local author Shirley Binkley will host a reading and book signing of her book, “One Size Fits All: Poetry for Every Mood,” 7 p.m. Oct. 1. Author David Howard will introduce his latest book, “Chasing Phil,” 7 p.m. Oct. 3.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, there are programs in which teens are invited to share horror tales, to learn how to apply gruesome makeup and to learn how to create their own costumes.

Come out to create a black cat wreath for the front door, 2 p.m. Oct. 13.

Follow the red balloons to participate in Stephen King night 7 p.m. Oct. 22. The program includes making small haunted hotels, playing trivia and a punch drink.

The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild will be at the library to share spooky stories for the whole family 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
