At the Sept. 17 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Macungie Police Department Sgt. Travis Kocher reported a vehicle was stolen during the Wheels of Time event at the end of August. Because cellphones were left in the vehicle, police were able to track the vehicle, which was found within four hours. A man was taken into custody involved in the vehicle theft.
Representatives with Allen Organ met with the police to discuss active shooter situations. The police have had a presence at Eyer Middle School, Macungie Elementary School, Shoemaker Elementary School and Willow Lane Elementary School. The police department believes a police presence helps the students feel safe.
Kocher noted he is concerned about the constant change of police officers. Officer Joseph David resigned from his 30-hour a week position but he wants to remain a part-time officer. His resignation was approved and his request for a part-time position was accepted.
Representatives from Spillman Farmer Associates attended the meeting to present a proposal for a borough facilities feasibility study. The study is designed to analyze whether the borough’s present facilities are being used fully and for the best use. Further development will be considered as plans are presented.
The borough is planning workshops for the new budget. Dates will be advertised before being held.
A meeting will be held Oct. 3 in Upper Milford involving area municipalities for Future LV.
Council members approved a contribution to the Minimum Municipality Obligation account involving pensions.
Parking restrictions on Village Walk are still being considered.
The next council meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St. Macungie.
