Lower Macungie Library is updating its online library catalog. The online catalog will be unavailable Oct. 6-10 for searching, renewing items and placing holds. No items will be due Oct. 8-11. There will be changes to checkout limits and fines. The new catalog will be ready to use starting Oct. 11.

The Teen Advisory Board for grades six through 12 will meet 3:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

There will be a Banned Books Week mini book craft for teens and adults 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 24.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Oct. 3 to discuss “Autumn” by Ali Smith. The book for November is “A Piece of the World” by Christina Baker Kline.

Afterschool Buckets of Nature for grades kindergarten through fifth will be held 4 p.m. Oct. 16. The Lehigh County Conservation District will present the program “Nature’s Magic, Mysteries and Myths.”

The library will host its third annual local soup challenge noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 27. Proceeds will benefit the library. There is an entry fee for competitors and an admission fee for tasters who will receive tickets to vote. For more information, contact the circulation desk.

Book donations are being accepted for the fall book sale. The last day for book donations is Sept. 29. Book sorting takes place 8:30 a.m. Thursday mornings.

The Parkland Art League will meet 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 6667 Lower Macungie Road, Trexlertown. The guest presenter, David Lee, is a well-known watercolorist who has won many awards and often gives demonstrations and workshops in the area.

The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the fire station at Sauerkraut Lane. There will be information on fire prevention, face painting, fire truck tours, a MedEvac helicopter demonstration, state police, food and beverages.

Concordia Lutheran Church will host a fall festival 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 20. Organizers are seeking vendors and crafters who would be interested in participating. The Lower Macungie Garden Club will meet 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center, 3450 Brookside Road.

In Ancient Oaks news, the Ancient Oaks Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29. There is no rain date. There will be a hoagie sale in October. There will be no Halloween decorating contest this year.

The Ancient Oaks Womens Organization will meet 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at St. Paul’s UCC.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Oct. 2 and 16 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

There will be a Father-Daughter Dance “Butterfly Kisses” for girls 4-12 years 7-9 p.m. Oct. 6 at the community center, 3450 Brookside Road.

Curbside yard waste collection will be Oct. 8 to 12 on the same day as trash collection. Containers/bundles should be placed separately at the curb on the regular collection day. The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 13th annual troop support program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who will not be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and phone cards will be accepted at the community center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays; 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays; and 8 to 10 a.m. Sundays through Nov. 25. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center. Over the last 12 years, 1,093 boxes of donated items were sent to 123 soldiers.

The community center will collect children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 14.

There will be a breakfast with everyone’s favorite mouse 9 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3 for ages 0-12 years with a parent or caregiver at the community center. Advanced registration is required.

The 10th annual craft/vendor fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at the community center. More than 100 crafters and vendors will participate. Brookside Deli will offer lunch 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A free shuttle from the parking lot to the door is provided by Corporate Limousine.

Curbside leaf collection begins Oct. 22 and continues through Dec. 3. Leaves must be out for collection by Dec. 3.

The community center offers a number of activities. Classes include card making classes, community meal prep, belly dance, ballroom dance, Tai Chi, Zumba, Pilates, adult and youth tennis lessons. Children’s activities include Toddlers and Tutus, Kindermusik, Minecraft, cooking, robotics and soccer. For more information, contact the community center at 610-966-6924.

Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 31. The site is closed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.
