Heidelberg Church hosting 5K benefit

Heidelberg Church, 5187 Irvin Road, Slatington, is hosting its first 5K run/walk 9 a.m. Sept. 22 at the church.

The event will take place rain or shine.

There will instant results and awards for the winners.

Food trucks will be available 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for refreshments.

There is a fee to participate with proceeds benefiting the Germansville Fire Company truck fund and the Kellyn Foundation, a local foundation, which implements programs to provide healthy fruits and vegetables to areas that may not have access to these foods and healthy living charities in the Lehigh Valley as designed by Heidelberg Church.

According to Goodwill Fire Company Deputy Chief Randy Metzger, at approximately 8:45 a.m. the following roadways will be closed in Heidelberg and Washington townships for the 5K.

They will reopen in a rolling fashion as the 5K proceeds. All roads other than Irving should be completely open by 11 a.m.

·Church Road between Lime Kiln and Saegersville Road;

·Phillips Road at Church Road;

·Saegersville Road between Church and Best Station Roads;

·Best Station Road between Saegersville Road and Lovers Lane;

·Furnace Road at Best Station Road;

·Hilldale Road at Irving Road;

·Hilldale Road at Lime Kiln Road; and

·Irving Road between Best Station and Church Roads.

Irving Road in the area of Heidelberg Church will be closed between Hilldale and Church roads for a prolonged period until noon due to the congestion and the main hub of the event taking place on church grounds.
