Artis places fourth at invitational meet

Shane Artis took fourth place in Saturday’s 30th Annual Centaur Invitational Cross Country Meet at DeSales University.

The Salisbury junior, who was running the course for the fifth time in his varsity career, finished in 17:12.6.

“It was pretty decent race,” he said. “Those hills are killer here. I just wanted to see what I could do, try to get a good time. I was trying to stay in the low 17s for sure.”

Artis is coming off a junior season that saw him make his first trip to states in fall for cross country and again in spring for track.

He put in plenty of mileage in the offseason and is looking for a big junior season and a return trip to Hershey this fall.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” he said. “There’s some good competition in our league right now and I’m just trying to stay equal with them. We put in a lot of miles after track season. I came off of states there and felt even better, coming into the summer ready to put in the work for the offseason.”

Artis was joined at DeSales by teammate Michael Sosnowksi, who finished 50th in 19:01.8.

Three Salisbury girls competed in the DeSales girls varsity race. Eliza Wiener finished 36th with a time of 26:45.2. Logan Woods was 55th wand Sativa Stecker was 59th.

Pine Grove senior Christina DiFalco won the girls race in 19:46, while Exeter won the girls team title.

In the boys race, Owen J. Roberts took the team title behind the first place finish of Linus Blatz (16:550).
