Sacred Heart School opens its doors for new academic year
On Aug. 27, Sacred Heart School opened for its 93rd school year. The 2018-19 academic year looks to be one of the school’s most exciting years yet.
Located at 115 Washington St., Bath, Sacred Heart is rich in tradition and prides itself on the close-knit family, which makes the school welcoming to children of all backgrounds and denominations.
The school has had numerous students pass through its door since it opened in 1925, and many of the students who are there today are children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the alumni. The history of the school is fascinating, and its deep focus on educational excellence is evident in the returning generations the school sees every year.
Each year, the school welcomes students who are new to Sacred Heart as well. The school offers scholarships and grants to new students as they join the Sacred Heart School family.
Academically, Sacred Heart School meets state standards and diocesan guidelines for curriculum. In addition to math, language arts, science and social studies, the school offers art, computer technology, library, music, physical education and Spanish. The school’s nine full-time and four part-time teachers ensure the success of all students. Additionally, Sacred Heart’s preschool offers a comprehensive program for 3- and 4-year-olds to prepare them for kindergarten success.
Student activities are an essential part of the Sacred Heart environment. There is a large playground and recreation field that the students enjoy regularly. Additionally, various clubs and an expansive Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) offer activities to keep the students active and engaged. The Sacred Heart CYO is growing every year with students participating in soccer, basketball, volleyball and track and field. Students also take part in the instrumental program and are members of the school’s band.
Principal Ann Marie Thomas said, “Sacred Heart School continues to provide our children with an exceptional academic education rooted in the teachings of Christ. Our dedicated teachers and staff promote success by meeting the needs of students and fostering a nurturing environment for students to grow to their full potential.
“We aim to share and showcase our successes and draw more children and families to join our special community. We provide tuition assistance for preschool through eighth grade through scholarships and grants because all children deserve an opportunity to a Catholic education at Sacred Heart School,” Thomas added.
