Both Lehigh Valley high school leagues featured battles of unbeaten teams this week.

In the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, Freedom earned a 21-20 win over Parkland. In the Colonial League, Notre Dame (Green Pond) outlasted Northwestern in overtime, 35-34.

Parkland-Freedom

Two undefeated Eastern Pennsylvania Conference went head to head and the Patriots came out on top, handing the six-time defending district champs a 21-20 loss.

Freedom fell behind 14-0 in the first half, but got it battled back with a touchdown late in the first half, another in the third quarter and the go-ahead score with 4:01 left in the game on a 1-yard Tristan Wheeler run that made it 21-14.

Parkland responded with a touchdown with 57 seconds left in the game, but the extra-point failed.

The Patriots had just 179 yards of total offense. Jared Jenkins threw for 101 yards (12-for-22, 1TD, 2 INT), with a touchdown pass to Vince Reph. Jalen Stewart led the Freedom rushing game with 57 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

The Trojans’ Joe Guida rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries in the game. Quarterback Andrew Lee completed nine of 16 passes for 131 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Whitehall-Emmaus

The Hornets stayed unbeaten with a 56-21 win over Whitehall.

Emmaus quarterback Ethan Parvel had a hand in four Hornet scored. He ran for 59 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing for 98 yards and two scores. The senior completed TD passes to Timothy Higgins and Deonte Castro (4 catches, 66 yards).

Lubens Myers ran for 163 yards and a touchdown for Emmaus. Carlton Lovett got Emmaus on the board with a 65-yard interception return in the first quarter.

The Zephyrs’ Mekhi Lee ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. Whitehall quarterback Anthony Nanoah ran for 51 yards and a touchdown and completed seven of 15 passes for 65 yards.

The Zephyrs fall to 0-3.

Pleasant Valley-Northampton

The Konkrete Kids improved to 2-1 with a 63-0 rout of Pleasant Valley.

Northampton’s Aiden Jones scored a pair of first-half touchdowns and Ethan Deater added two rushing touchdowns in the second half.

Northampton improved to 2-1 with the win, while the Bears fall to 0-3.

Liberty-Bethlehem Catholic

The Golden Hawks defeated Liberty 45-16 on Saturday evening.

Bethlehem Catholic’s Zamar Brake completed five passes and four went for touchdowns. He threw for 192 yards, hitting Matt Stianche (4 receptions, 92 yards) for three scores and finding Paul Carreras for a 50-yard TD. Zaheer Seabrook rushed for 74 yards on eight carries for the Hawks (2-1). Tavion Banks (13 carries, 8 yards) had a rushing touchdown.

Liberty’s Todd Erney threw for a pair of touchdown, completing eight of 18 passes for 79 yards. Kendrick Wesley and Justin Diaz caught touchdown passes for Liberty (2-1), while Nasir Legree rushed 19 times for 59 yards.

Palisades-Northwestern

The Pirates beat Northwestern in overtime to remain unbeaten and had the Tigers their first loss.

In the first series of overtime, Palisades went ahead 35-28 before the Tigers scored to make it 35-34. They went for the two-point conversion but didn’t get it.

The Pirates’ Christian Gretzinger ran for 146 yards and had three touchdowns in the game.

Northwestern had two 100-yard rushers in Nick Henry (14 carries, 105 yards) and quarterback Deven Bollinger (23 carries, 110 yards, 3 TD). Bollinger also threw a touchdown pass to Tyler Lobach (3 catches, 20 yards).

Pen Argyl-Catasauqua

The Green Knights posted a 28-7 win over Catasauqua.

Tadd Barr led Pen Argyl (2-1) 161 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Antonio Reto ran for 141 yards and a touchdown.

Catasauqua falls to 0-3 with the loss.

Salisbury-Wilson

The Falcons picked up their first win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating winless Wilson 21-7.

Salisbury’s Tim Buda rushed for 70 yards on 11 carries in a game where neither team amassed 200 yards of total offense. The Falcons held the Green Knights to 171 yards, while Salisbury had 191 yards of offense (120 rushing, 71 passing).

Jacob Kamp completed three of seven passes for the Falcons for 71 yards. He hit Buda for a 32-yard touchdown. Chad Parton ran for Salisbury’s other offensive touchdown. The Falcons (1-2) got a fourth-quarter touchdown on Weston Schaffer’s 53-yard interception return for a score.
