NORTH WHITEHALL: St. John’s UCC having barbecue and Community Day events
St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, kicks off the new church year with a chicken barbecue from 4-6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 for those eating in and until 7 p.m. for those taking out their meal.
Adult meal includes half a chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, lettuce with bacon dressing, beverage and dessert.
The kids meal has two drumsticks, macaroni and cheese, applesauce, cookie and beverage.
Tickets will be available at the door or may be reserved in advance by calling 610-262-8061.
On Sept. 9, Rally Day will inaugurate a new year of Christian education with Sunday School starting at 9 a.m.
The worship service returns to its weekly 10:15 a.m. Sunday time.
The annual Laurys Station Community Day, organized by St. John’s UCC will take place 3 p.m. until fireworks in the evening on Sept. 15.
The event includes music by DJ Dave D 3-5:30 p.m. and Woodside Avenue at 5:30 p.m. until the fireworks begin.
There will also be a chili cook-off, pet photo contest, pig roast, car show, vendors, food, games, bake sale, Boy Scout and Cub Scout encampment and historic displays of Laurys Station and the surrounding area.
Community Day will be at the Laurys Station Fire Company and North Whitehall Township fields, 5314 Egypt Road, Laurys Station.
Admission is free but donations of canned goods for Jordan Lutheran Food Pantry will be accepted.
On Sept. 16, St. John’s will celebrate Harvest Home at the 10:15 a.m. worship service. The sanctuary will be decorated with a harvest theme.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will have a Book Fest 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 9.
The public is invited to come and select free books.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will host a backyard barbecue bash Sept. 15.
Lorah’s pig roast and chicken dinners plus sides and dessert will be available at 3:30 p.m.
Music will be provided 5:30-8:30 p.m. by the TimeWhy?s band.

The Upper Lehigh Lions Club will be serving a chicken barbecue at the Schnecksville Fire Co. pavilion noon-6 p.m. Sept. 22.
The Lions are having this fundraiser to benefit kitchen improvements at the fire company.
Reservations are required.
