LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Appalachian Trail Conservancy has grant money

Heidelberg supervisors have learned grants are available from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy to help with zoning and ordinance changes.

In other matters, Goodwill Fire Chief Jay Scheffler reported to the township board the purchase of a fire truck has nearly been finalized with the contract expected to be signed in early September.

Supervisor Jonathan Jakum and Dawn Didra attended a recent Lehigh Valley Planning Commission meeting.

They reported back that highway and construction projects are planned and include structurally deficient bridges and widening of Route 22.

Township Manager Janice Meyers reported to the board she is working on the first draft of the 2019 budget and should have it ready for the September meeting.

Engineer Chris Noll said the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission should have a “no harm” provision included for the walking trail at the Northwestern Recreation Community Park fields, which should be doable because of the recreation commission’s association with the Northwestern Lehigh School District.

Trick or Treat Night is scheduled for Oct. 27. As Weisenberg and Lowhill townships have already adopted the last Saturday as an annual date, Heidelberg will do it also. Fridays are not suitable due to football games. There is no rain date.
