4-H volunteer receives 2018 veterinary service award

Dr. Marie Weber of North Whitehall was presented the Distinguished Veterinary Service Award and honored at a Hall of Fame Luncheon and Keystone Veterinary Conference in August at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, Hershey.

The Distinguished Veterinary Service Award is presented to a member of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association for distinguished service to the veterinary profession over a period of years.

The Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association is an organization advancing animal welfare and human health while ensuring the vitality of the profession.

It is the only statewide professional membership association dedicated exclusively to the profession of veterinary medicine and the interests of the veterinary team.

Established in 1883, PVMA membership has grown from the original 22 founding members to 2,400 members and 500 veterinary students.

The focus of the association is professional development, advocacy, and practice vitality to ensure the continued success of their members.

PVMA presents many awards for different services throughout their association.

Dr. Weber, who graduated from Penn State and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, has practiced veterinary medicine for 30 years in the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos.

She lives in North Whitehall with her two dogs, Dixie and Kona, and two cats.

Her interests include gardening, the 4-H Veterinary Science Club and cooking.

Dr. Weber has been a 4-H volunteer for 26 years, leading an amazing group of young people.

Many of her graduates have gone on to work with animals in their career, several becoming veterinarians.
